Solid state cooling boost for mini
Zotac Technology in Taiwan launched the ZBOX PI430AJ with the AirJet active cooling chips to double the performance of the . 115mm x 76mm x 22 mm mini PC.
Frore Systems came out of stealth mode last December with over $100m and support from Intel and Qualcomm Ventures and two MEMS-based chips it calls solid state cooling.
The AirJet Mini is 2.8mm thick, 27.5mm x 41.5mm in size, and weighs 11 grams. The AirJet Pro is the same thickness and approximately twice the size and weight. AirJet chips are scalable, meaning that multiple chips can be easily integrated into devices to cool processors silently, resulting in major performance gains.
"While the latest processors promise higher performance, only 50% or less is realized because the thermal solutions are still the same, old, passive or fan-based systems that are inadequate, noisy, and bulky," said Dr. Seshu Madhavapeddy, founder and CEO of Frore Systems. "Thermal is the only aspect of modern-day computing that still uses century-old technology. In today's devices, what often determines performance is the capability of the thermal solution and not the sophistication of the processor. We are excited to change the future of computing with AirJet."
Zotac uses two AirJet Mini chips in the ZBOX PI430AJ to boost performance from a dual-core Atom processor to the latest Alder Lake processor with eight efficiency cores.
"The AirJet powered ZBOX PI430AJ delivers superior performance in a silent, miniaturized form, and we’re proud that this solid-state actively cooled mini-PC will be a trailblazer in the industry with its breakthrough cooling solution," said Tony Wong, Chief Executive Officer at Zotac Technology.
"Intel's mission with Intel Evo is to unite the open PC ecosystem to deliver the best possible laptop experiences that people want. Engineering thin, light, stylish laptop designs that offer great performance while remaining cool and quiet are foundational to that mission. Frore Systems’ AirJet technology offers a new and novel approach to help achieve these design goals in new ways and Intel is excited about the engineering collaboration with Frore Systems to help ready their technology for future Intel Evo laptops," said Josh Newman, VP & GM Mobile Platforms at Intel.
"The ZBOX PI430AJ with AirJet is revolutionizing the Mini PC industry," said Madhavapeddy. "Until AirJet, thermal was the only aspect of modern-day technology that hadn't changed in decades. Zotac's launch of this fanless Mini-PC with 2X the sustained processor performance is a massive step forward, and consumers will finally get the high Mini-PC performance they want in an incredibly small fanless device."
