Zhenguo Yang, 68, charged with attempted murder after alleged Central Coast stabbing

Mar 10, 2023

A man accused of stabbing a woman several times before allegedly smashing up her car and going into her home to inflict more damage has been refused bail in a New South Wales Central Coast court.

Police allege Zhenguo Yang, 68, attempted to murder the woman on a driveway at a Lake Haven property on Saturday night before going to her house on a nearby street.

The woman, 56, was treated by emergency services and taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Court documents allege Mr Yang fled the scene at about 9pm, damaged the woman's car and broke into her house.

"[He] damaged a stone bench top, stove top, fridge, television and tablet computer," the documents alleged.

Following the alleged assault, police established multiple crime scenes in the area and conducted a search.

Mr Yang was found at the woman's house just before 10pm that night and was arrested.

He is under police guard in hospital.

Mr Yang has been charged with attempted murder, cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, break and enter, and destroy or damage property.

He is also facing three counts of contravening an apprehended domestic violence order.

Mr Yang's lawyer did not apply for bail on his behalf in Wyong Local Court today and it was formally refused.

Judge Steven Olischlager said he would adjourn the matter to Tuesday so Mr Yang could use a Mandarin interpreter remotely from hospital during the court proceedings.
