Lilbits: Audacity 3.6, Android 14 for the Fairphone, and a mini PC with Intel Meteor Lake and NVIDIA RTX 40 - Liliputing

Oct 16, 2024

Earlier this year Asus introduced its first mini PC that’s part of both the NUC line of mini PCs and the Asus ROG line of gaming PCs. The Asus ROG NUC is a compact computer with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, all crammed into a little PC with a volume of 2.5 liters.

More recently the company introduced a nearly identical computer called the Asus NUC 14 Performance. The only significant difference is the lack of an RGB backlit ROG logo on the side. While the NUC 14 Performance isn’t available for purchase from Asus yet, you can now buy what’s basically the same computer from Simply NUC… if you can afford it.

The Simply NUC Scorpion Canyon mini PC is basically a branded version of the Asus NUC 14 Performance: a compact desktop that combines an Intel Meteor Lake-H processor with NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics. It ain’t cheap though: prices start at $1899 for a model with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD.

Two years after launching a “Circular” subscription plan for Nokia phones, HMD is canceling the program, but users will not have to return phones when the program ends. Fairphone recently ended a similar program

Fairphone will begin rolling out Android 14 for the Fairphone 5 soon, with a Fairphone 4 update coming in September. The update brings some usability improvements, but removes the Always Show Time and Info feature due to battery drain.

Open Source digital audio editor Audacity version 3.6 is out now, with new real-time compressor and limiter effects, a Master effects channel (that applies to all tracks in a project), and updated light and dark themes.
